Rhizae Renewal Collective – Bioremediation of 1316 Valley St.

Date grant awarded: November 29, 2018

The Bioremediation of 1316 Valley Street is a project led by Rhizae Renewal Collective to remediate high lead content in an abandoned lot in the Johnston Square community of Baltimore. By working with plants, fungi, and microbes as allies in earth healing, they plan to extract and immobilize heavy metal content in the soil. As they undertake this remediation work, they will create a website to inform the neighborhood about this remediation plan and administer a survey to receive feedback from the neighborhood on how they would like to see the lot used.
