Patrick Okwero Wesonga, Energy Challenge in Rural Areas

A man sits at a round table with Coca-Cola crates behind him as he holds up a solar lamp.

Nineteen percent of the population in Kenya has access to electricity, meaning that over 34 million people are living without power. In Nyapwaka, Kenya, Patrick Okwero Wesonga has created the Energy Challenge in Rural Areas project as part of an innovative charitable model to tackle poverty and climate change. Patrick will train women in the distribution of solar lamps, clean energy stoves, entrepreneurship skills, micro loans, marketing and customer service.
