Grantee Name: Onike Shorunkeh-Sawyerr & Karina Mutota
Project Name: Helping Ourselves Together (HOT)
Grant Location: Barcelona, SPAIN

Project Description: The “Helping Ourselves Together (HOT)” projects aims to provide information and advisory services accessible to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) community to minimize all forms of discrimination and contribute to an equitable society that respects all human rights. This project will provide a helpline for direct services to African asylum seekers, undocumented migrants and refugees with access to information and referral services. The helpline will provide supportive, non-judgemental and confidential space for the target group. We will provide the target group with support letters, assess their country situations and produce unbiased independent reports to support their asylum claims.

Through this project, a website will be created to provide resources and information that can be downloaded free of charge to serve as additional information. In addition, monthly open group sessions will occur to encourage gatherings in a safe space. The meetings will allow participants to develop reports, campaigns and advocacy projects together with PEI staff to foster behavioral and structural changes within the Barcelona community.
