Noomayianat Community Development Organization, Well Digging Project
In the semi-arid landscape of Kimana Ward in Loitokitok, little rain falls and water is scarce. For residents of the region, access to water is a daily struggle, with many community members depending on streams contaminated with E. coli and other bacteria for their daily water supply.
While attending a water workshop in Machakos, Youth Environmental Hub Team Member Beth Koigi met project coordinator Benjamin Loishorua and began discussing the work of Noomayianat Community Development Organization to tackle this water insecurity.
Beth decided to award a flow fund to this project because they are a true community organization, working on behalf of all community members to try to find sustainable solutions to the water problem that work for everyone. She is excited by their plans to use solar panels to power the pumps in this project, which will bring water to 135 households. She added that this work is especially meaningful because women in the community currently spend up to 60% of their time trying to locate clean water for their families.
