Date grant awarded: 2/7/2017

Nicholas Yiu and Matt Hong are the founders of Mixathon48, an organization dedicated to making music technology education accessible to everyone and revolutionizing how music is taught today. Mixathon48 was founded in 2015 while the two were students at UC Berkeley, and it is currently run by Cal students and alumni.

In a rapidly evolving society with immense technological and professional development, music has become underrepresented but just as important. Their goal is to enable people to pursue music technology activities to enhance their daily life. To date, Mixathon48 has organized 3 music production marathons reaching over 600 participants in 65 countries, and hopes to expand by hosting workshops at elementary and middle schools in the San Francisco Bay Area.
