Nancy Otieno and James Nyasiyo, 2 of 5,000: Water Tanks for Ogongo Primary School

A concrete school building is photographed with red doors.

In Migori, Kenya there is no source of water in the Ogongo school compound, causing children to travel long distances in search of the vital nutrient. Combine this with the poor water quality and you find students spending valuable learning time outside the class fetching water or seeking medical care. Nancy Otieno and James Nyasiyo are addressing this through their project 2 of 5,000: Water Tanks for Ogongo Primary School. They will focus on a low-cost and low-maintenance solution that utilizes rooftop, rainwater harvesting… Allowing teachers to teach and students to learn.
