Mercy Nyambura – Rainwater Harvesting Tanks Project
Poor women-headed households often lack access to clean water, partly because they are unable to harvest rainwater. This forces them to get water from polluted wells, open pans, or rivers. The consumption of contaminated water results in water borne diseases, resulting in high hospitalization costs and deaths.
Mercy Nyambura Kariuki with the Beyond Vision Self Help Group, aims to change this by providing water tanks to women-headed households in Nyahururu, Nyandarua County for rainwater harvesting. The goal of the project is to alleviate poverty and reduce the incidence of water borne diseases that occur due to the use of contaminated water. The money will be used to install plastic water tanks, gutters and iron sheets to trap rain water.
