Mercy Mwanyasa, Enhancing Food Security and Youth Job Opportunities in Taita

A woman stands at a market stall full of tomatoes.

In Kenya’s country capital of Nairobi, there have been rising cases of drug abuse and alcoholism amongst the youth due to joblessness. Mercy Mwanyasa has created the Enhancing Food Security and Youth Job Opportunities in Taita project to give young people hands-on activities that lead to self-dependency. Twenty-five unemployed youth will be trained in the planting and harvesting techniques of tomato and passion fruit along with outreach practices that will empower them to work with substance dependent youth.

Date grant awarded: April 19, 2016
