Mazingira Safi Initiative – The Briquette Making Project
Mazingira Safi Initiative (MSI) aims to make cooking and heating a pleasant experience by producing briquettes. Charcoal is a commonly used cooking and heating fuel in many households of Nairobi, Kenya. However, it is usually expensive and produces a lot of smoke leading to health complications. Briquettes are a form of green energy made from recycling waste paper. They are smokeless, sparkless with a longer burning life and are very affordable. By acquiring an electric machine with the TPP grant, MSI will be able to increase briquette production, serving more people in the community. This project is an economic and health lifeline for households and also reduces deforestation by reducing the trees chopped down for charcoal.
