Mattawan Lions Club Foundation – Mattawan Community Garden

Date grant awarded: May 31, 2018

The Mattawan Community Garden was started a few years ago by the Mattawan Lions Club Foundation and is located behind the Antwerp Activity Center in Mattawan, Michigan. The garden is 300’x 100′. The MLCF saw the need to provide fresh vegetables to the local food pantry when helping on a distribution day. It was then that they decided to start this huge garden. Last year they had The Mattawan Lions Foundation, members of the Mattawan Lions Club, Leo Club, Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, and several other organizations help to plant and grow fresh vegetables.

With this grant from the Pollination Project, they will be growing fruit to be given to the local Mattawan Area Pantry for distribution throughout the summer and fall. The 200 families and senior citizens who are served monthly will receive this nutritional food.
