Marilyn Galvan and Donna Ruff, Rest Area Label Project

Date grant awarded: December 5, 2016

Human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry in the world and the state of Michigan was ranked second in the number of juveniles recovered from sex trafficking in 2013. The Rest Area Label Project, started by Marilyn Galvan and Donna Ruff, place “stop sign” labels with removable edges inside bathroom stalls at rest areas with information and resources regarding human trafficking. Each label has the number to an anti-human trafficking center that is operated 24/7 by individuals speaking over 170 languages to best accommodate the needs of those seeking assistance.
