Karine Sar, Empowering Disabled Women in Casamance (Senegal) through micro-enterprise

Date grant awarded: 3/31/2017

Karine and Deline’s Gift, the organization she leads, work to serve and create practical and impactful economic opportunities for marginalized and disabled women in Casamance, Senegal. They do that by them with providing skills training, seed funding and long term coaching so they can create successful micro enterprises that lead to their economic empowerment. The Pollination grant will specifically fund the development of Batiyaye Naturals, a line of premium and all natural body care products made by disabled women in the Casamance using local ingredients.

Through this grant, we are proud to support Deline’s Gift project named “Empowering disabled women in Casamance (Senegal) through micro-enterprise”, for the inclusion of disabled women and to help showcase them as productive members of society. Indeed, disabled women have the talent and ambition to lead productive and prosperous lives. What they do not have is the support, opportunity, training or resources to pursue their goals. They often face insurmountable obstacles to their development. The awareness that they deserve equal chances at life while affirming their dignity, is what inspired Karine to act on their behalf and promote their inclusion and empowerment.
