Joshua Amponsem, Sustainable Community Project

Date grant awarded: 02/05/2017

Joshua Amponsem started the Sustainable Community Project when he commenced a series of sanitation workshops in Cape Coast with Isaac Abugri and other members of the Green Africa Youth Organization. Through the workshop, Joshua noticed that inappropriate organic waste disposal has led to the increase in sanitation-related diseases such as cholera and diarrhea in impoverished rural Ghana, posing an environmental hazard to human health.

Meanwhile, organic waste, if well managed, can serve as compost to ensure food security in impoverished communities. Through household education on pit composting, the project seeks to eliminate inappropriate disposal of solid organic waste and to provide nutritious organic food to families through organic farming in Cape Coast.
