Jonathan Edward Ziemba, Yooper Organic Soil and Vermicompost
Jonathan Ziemba aims to teach the Keweenaw Peninsula community in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan about the benefits of vermicomposting to enrich the soil and lessen the dependence on chemicals in farming applications. A vermicompost system will be created on his property and the worms will be fed using organic waste from his large garden and from around his property.
The soil condition is poor in most of the Upper Peninsula. It is rocky and not very fertile, which leads to the use chemical fertilizers to produce fruits and vegetables. Jonathan will teach the community about vermicomposting at local farmers markets. Awareness of his project, the Yooper Organic Soil and Vermicompost Project, and information will be broadcast in social media via local Facebook groups.
