Jill McCracken, SWOP Behind Bars

Date grant awarded: December 16, 2016

SWOP (Sex Workers Outreach Project) Behind Bars reaches out to incarcerated sex workers to provide support, share knowledge, and build community. Because sex workers are often stigmatized and subjected to violence, and incarcerated sex workers are even more isolated, Alex Andrews, Katherine Koster, and Jill McCracken wanted to build a bridge between the sex worker rights movement and the thousands of women, men, and trans individuals currently incarcerated. Located in central Florida and supported by people internationally, SWOP Behind Bars publishes and distributes a national monthly newsletter, facilitates a peer supported pen-pal program, donates books to prison libraries, and provides substance abuse and trauma-informed materials for self-directed programs.
