The poverty stricken areas of Shreveport demonstrate a severe need for young people to try to change the culture and climate of the region. Our work is geared towards helping these youth find purpose and passion in the local community. The impact that I want to have is for our young people to become even more accountable for their actions. With this project targeting more at-risk youth, the impact has the power to change a negative influence into a positive one. Changing one life at a time has the power to change many lives. We know that we can increase impact with a permanent place of our own – a place to host more workshops, feed the homeless, hold empowerment events, and provide private mentoring sessions.
The initial seed was important because it helped us to establish a name in the community and helped people to recognize us as community changemakers. Receiving a larger grant helps us to continue our work and secure a permanent location to do more. We won’t have to worry about the temporary use of certain buildings and we will be able to reach more young people and cater to the needs that exist. With this project targeting more at-risk young people, the impact has the power to change a negative influence into a positive one.
