Our project aims at exploring the political and social role of arts under occupation. It aspires to bring together local and international artists to create, envision, dream, connect, and resist.
This work is important because it brings together already-present forces, such as youth and available venues and spaces, to address political and social issues. In realities of political turmoil, like that in Palestine, the role of arts is often dismissed and undermined, despite the systematic targeting of Palestinian culture. It is, therefore, important to emphasize, understand, and empower Palestinian arts and cultural initiatives.
The initial seed helped us bring together the team, start the vision, work with the community, and identify areas for growth and empowerment. This grant will be central in helping us expand our work and vision. We know that this is another step in the direction of creating a sustainable, long-run cultural center.
