George Kamau – Zama Zama Dance And Development Centre

Date grant awarded: 07/22/2017

Zama Zama Dance and Development Center is a community development organization that uses dance activities and other forms of art to engender broad social-economic development, while also affecting positive social change. Founded in 2012 in the Mathare area which is one of the Africa’s largest and poorest slums, Zama Zama Dance is a pioneer in linking dance and other forms of art with social improvements and community development activities such as slum garbage clean ups, environmental improvements, menstrual hygiene awareness and HIV/Aids prevention. Today, the organization continues to use dance and other forms of art as an innovative and effective way to get youth involved in helping themselves and their communities.
