Generation Guiders CBO, Erick Omondi – Rural women empowerment
Erick Omondi is the founder of the project, Rural Women Empowerment, located in Kenya. The goal of the project is to empower rural women through sewing training. The women live in a rural area where nearly half of the residents live on less than $1 a day. Living in poverty and having limited resources, women in Trans-Nzoia often cannot gain economic independence, simply because they are women.
Due to gender-based stereotypes, they are often blocked from opportunities. With the Rural Women Empowerment project, rural women will have the chance to complete a 3-month tailoring/dressmaking program. The goal is to ensure rural women are equipped with tools that are essential for running a small business. The Pollination Project grant will be used to purchase a sewing machine as well as materials for the project.
