Date grant awarded: April 7, 2016

For girls living in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, most are unemployed, which increase their risk of engaging in precarious situations as well as a monthly income below 7 United States Dollars per month. Esther Nyakwaka seeks to empower these youth by utilizing the country’s fertile fruit and transforming it into healthy juices through her Fresh Juice, Better Lives! project. The project creates employment opportunities to girls as well as life skills workshops that open them up to the ideas behind assertive communication, self-esteem and decision making to lead the best life possible.
