Erin Manuel - Reach for the Sun

Erin Manuel, Reach for the Sun

Date grant awarded: 06/21/2017

“Reach for the Sun” is a project created by Erin Manuel, a high school student in rural western North Carolina, to design and install a solar-powered USB device charging station at her school and at a school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Students will learn about solar energy and one another’s cultures while creating a very useful product for charging cell phones and other devices. The project will build community between the schools, encourage students to think globally, and empower them to work for change in their own lives and in the world.
