Project Description: The “acorn.wiki: In the Speaker’s Hands Project” is a new generation of language revitalization known as acorn.wiki. This project provides over 5 different Native Californian language communities with access to recording devices to document their own languages. These language communities span from Mutsun Ohlone near San Jose to Winnemem Wintu in Mount Shasta and many other places in between. It is time to return language preservation into the hands of the speakers, instead of exclusively academic linguists.
