Elizabeth Koigi, Biogas Project

A female in a white blazer is pictured in front of a green bush.

In Nairobi, Kenya it is common to use firewood for cooking purposes, often resulting in soot and poor air quality. To best address this alongside deforestation, Elizabeth Koigi has created the Biogas Project, allowing community members to be introduced to more sustainable systems for cooking, lighting and heating. A clean source of gas will be produced when hydrogen sulphide and carbon (iv) oxide are released together with methane gas.

Date grant awarded: April 25, 2016
