Eleni Altinoglou, Upcycling Lifevests: Safe Passage

A man looks downward as he stands in front of a table full of fabric.

Thousands of discarded life jackets and PVC boat trash litter the shores of Mytilene, Greece, as a result of the 2,000 people fleeing into the country. The social and environmental impacts of this have allowed Eleni Altinoglou to create the Upcycling Lifevests: Safe Passage project. Volunteer refugees unite to create bags, backpacks, pouches and furniture, transforming their economic lives.
