Eastside Cafe – Eastside Cafe Sembrando Resistencia

Date grant awarded: June 22, 2018

The Eastside Cafe Sembrando Resistencia Youth Summer Program, located in Los Angeles, is an intentional space to empower and build youth organizing with young people ages 14-18 who identify as low-income, and are affected by, or have family who are affected by, immigration/policing policies. Organizers of the project will hold space for youth of color, undocumented, queer and/or trans youth to learn about issues affecting their communities.

This will also include community building activities, fun workshops, art and healing, and cultural/political education. Youth will take part in 9 summer sessions related to decolonization, healing community practices, growing food, organizing and political education, as well as the development of a youth space at the Eastside Cafe.
