Dorcas Shisia – Women Ecotte Empowerment

Date grant awarded: November 9, 2018

The WOMEN ECOTTE EMPOWERMENT Project is located in Kakamega County in the Western region of Kenya. Formed by Dorcas Shisia in 2017, this project highlights pressing socio-economic issues faced by the women of Nangurunya in Lwanda as they struggle to meet their daily obligations.

This project equips women in Nangurunya with the skills to make briquette charcoal from papers and plant wastes while integrating these skills with business management tips. After the training, the targeted group will be able to make their own briquette cooking coal and learn to sell the surplus to potential customers. With the growing scarcity of wood fuel the region is experiencing, this project is a unique one in this region.
