Dasha Savage, Merrystem

Dasha, a young, visionary leader, created the Merrystem project in Oakland, CA to educate residents on how to harvest food from their own backyards. She and volunteers are developing a model to collect all of the produce that each family grows, to redistribute it to other residents so they each get a share of the food that other families have grown.

Merrystem has also established a bartering system between residents and they are currently using the garden space at United Roots/Youth Impact Hub in Oakland to help implement the program.

Merrystem promotes social justice by giving low-income families access to healthy, organic produce and economic livelihood.
