Daniel Tulibagenyi, the Detained Activist Morale Support Fund
Daniel Tulibagenyi’s project, the Detained Activist Morale Support Fund, is helping the families of Ugandan youth activists who have been illegally detained for their participation in social justice campaigns.
The activists that Daniel works with are predominantly impoverished, underprivileged, and unemployed youth. In spite of their personal challenges, these brave young men and women put themselves at risk in order to advocate for economic justice, opposing government corruption and police brutality in Uganda. Unfortunately, many youth activists are illegally detained for indefinite periods, often without charges. Once in custody, activists routinely face torture, intimidation, harassment, and inhumane living conditions.
Illegal imprisonment practices in Uganda have devastating economic consequences on the families of young activists’ families. Daniel’s program will help the families of detainees by providing them with monetary support to pay for basic living expenses. Daniel’s efforts will help to ease the economic burden families face while their courageous loved ones are imprisoned.
