Daina Zhang, Room for Justice

Date grant awarded: February 19, 2016

Surveys conducted by the New York State Uniform Court System and bar associations have revealed that low-income litigants appear before the court on their own because they feel that they cannot afford legal assistance. In Flushing, New York, Daina Zhang has created the Room for Justice project that will join in on the effort on providing free, legal assistance and information to the self-represented to help them defend and protect their rights. The project will provide people with walk-in services for quick consultations and document reviews along with appointment-only sessions, where people can receive help in preparing legal documents and contacting necessary agencies for further support.
