Collins Ikutwa – Team lead/Project Lead – Wheatgrass -‘The super-food’ for Health and Wellness

Date grant awarded: June 21, 2018

Wheatgrass for Health and Wellness is a community initiative based in the western part of Kenya. Collins Ikutwa trains the community to harness the health benefits of the wheatgrass plant. Wheatgrass has a plethora of health benefits that can help supplement the nutritional needs of people. The project is based in a poor neighborhood with a high poverty index and an above normal HIV/AIDS infection rate. Helping the residents to hydroponically farm the plant and juice it will help them supplement their meals with the nutrients that wheatgrass supplies.

The inspiration for the project was derived from the need to alleviate the suffering of the poor, HIV/AIDS infected, and affected orphans and women. Most of them were going for days on end without proper meals and yet they were on antiretroviral treatment. The grant money will help procure the non-GMO seeds and other materials needed for this community venture.
