Climate Transformation and Energy Remediation Society, Reforestation Programme

Date grant awarded: 01/12/2018

Many people in the Kuje community in Nigeria rely on tree cutting for their livelihoods. However, this practice has been depleting the forest area of Kuje, with deforestation leading to increased temperature and higher risk of erosion that is so bad that it can wipe away their homes and farm lands. This Reforestation Programme, led by Chukwuma Smart Amaefula, Emmanuel Unaegbu (Co-Leader), Matthew Okoye (Kuje Community Member), serves the Kuje area by providing local communities with training and information on forest conservation techniques, reforestation, and new advocacy tools for the campaign against deforestation. There will be a specific focus on gender related issues, including how forest conservation impacts women and girls and how to develop opportunities for them to participate meaningfully in forest conservation policy making.
