Cheka Norris Keba – WasteWarriors Capacity Building Project

I was inspired by my mother who raised 7 children by herself. We used to feed from plastic waste that was collected from the slums, households, and market places. This waste was collected and then sold to businesses and petty traders, until my younger brother and I saw the need to start recycling this waste by ourselves.

WasteWarriors Capacity Building Project seeks to create awareness on the reduction of plastic pollution using the circular economy model, which entails sensitizing and building the capacities of 40 internally displaced women in the transformation of waste to wealth. This work is important to me because the Anglophone crisis has brought about misery upon many households and I believe that economically empowering these women will improve their standards of living and they will be able to support both their families and themselves.

This seed grant will equip internally displaced widows and single mothers with the skills and resources to provide the basic needs of their families thus improve their standards of living.
