Charles Uihlein, the Teens Grow Greenhouse

Charles Uihlein, Teens Grow Greenhouse

Charles Uihlein is an educator who strives to inspire his students through experiential learning and community leadership. His newest initiative is teaching students to grow, cook, and market their own food with the Teens Grow Greenhouse project located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Teens Grow Greenhouse is the result of a collaboration between the New Horizons Charter School, the non-profit Teens Grow Greens, and Webers’ Greenhouses, a local business. Students will paint murals in the greenhouse, plant and care for crops, which will be sold at a local grocery co-op, and hone their communication and financial literacy skills.

The collaborative has already begun work on the Teens Grow Greenhouse and plan to continue developing the space throughout the course of 2015. Charles explains, “The Teens Grow Greenhouse will allow the students of New Horizons and Teens Grow Greens to pursue their education with quality mentoring. This is experiential learning at its very best; solving complex problems.”

Funding from The Pollination Project will be used for the purchase of gardening supplies and educational materials to be used for an outdoor classroom.
