Chamveka Village – Malawi – Accelerate Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion Project
Accelerate Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion Project is located in Mchinji, Malawi. Chamveka village is one of the villages in Mchinji district where health issues have been neglected for a long time. The people of Chamveka used to defecate in nearby bushes, which led to the rise of waterborne illnesses. It took the initiative of MacDonald Phiri and Mr Tivinigule to stand up to end these problems that have been plaguing their communities for a long time.
They mobilized the community to start implementing water and sanitation protocols. However, due to the financial constraints, they could only manage to mobilize locally available resources. To realize their dream, they approached Lamech Chimphero to help them mobilize the resources for the construction of 7 modern pit latrines and conduct awareness campaigns in the village and other surrounding villages.
This project will help the village learn water and sanitation activities that will help in reducing the diseases and improve their well being. The Pollination Project grant will help them purchase materials for toilet construction, transportation costs, and materials for their awareness meetings.
