Cecelia Rich and Taaliba Saadiqah – The Village Tree Inc. Urban Farm Project

Date grant awarded: September 29, 2018

Cecelia Rich and Taaliba Saadiqah are the founders of The Village Tree Inc. Urban Farm Project. The organizers are excited to plant social change in the Wilmington, Delaware community. Their goal is to promote healthy living by teaching the community to plant their own fruits and vegetables. They welcome everyone to take an active role in their own life by living healthy, starting with their urban farm. They also provide information on local resources that can assist individuals and families to become more self-sufficient and create sustainable lives. Their motto is ‘It Takes a Village to Raise a Village’. Our nation is plagued by food insecurities and food deserts.

The Village Tree Inc. is committed to address this issue in underserved populated communities by utilizing a vacant lot and erecting a food forest while promoting healthy eating and improving the quality of life. The Pollination Project grant will go towards farming needs (like soil and seeds), farming tools, and materials to promote the urban gardening project.
