Caroline Njeri Kamau, Safi Paint

Date grant awarded: 3/11/2017

Safi Paint is a local initiative geared towards educating professional painters on the correct use of water-based painting products. The program trains passionate individuals to the profession of painting and glass cutting for four weeks.

It begins by taking the painters through a unit of teaching to enable them to understand the composition of paint, types of brushes, painting techniques, glass cutting and fitting. Then they get opportunities to work on real projects where they can make money.

This project is important because it provides training and income to women who currently struggle to provide for themselves and their family, while also teaching people about environmentally safe paints which reduce environmental impact of paint running off into water supplies and contaminating water sources during production, and also reduces the health impact of exposure to toxic paints.
