Bettering Individuals Gradually (B.I.G) – Bettering Individuals Gradually: Free Little Libraries

Date grant awarded: October 15, 2018

Building Individuals Gradually (BIG) is a safety net and support service for students of all ages with unmet needs in Hayward, CA . Led by Arielle Roy, a recent sociology graduate from CSUEB, BIG wants to build its youth community’s relationship to empowering literature written for and by people like themselves. BIG will install free, mini-libraries at California State East Bay (CSUEB) Main Campus, Chabot Community College Campus, and Hayward “The Hub.”

These mini libraries will be stocked with culturally relevant self-help books that can be taken/replaced year round. The goal is that young students know how to locate the resources they need to be successful in their lives.
