Krystal Baisden - Be Super

Be Super – Be Super

Date grant awarded: 11/08/2017

Krystal Kara was basically raised in a comic book store. A second generation comic enthusiast, Krystal’s love of superheroes, comics, and sci-fi went beyond their face-value narratives, as she looked at into their deeper metaphors. After moving to Chicago for school, Krystal wanted to create spaces for social justice discussions taught through comic narratives. So she created “Be Super”.

Be Super strives to use comic book characters and sci-fi as educational tools to understand social justice issues. Be Super believes that If we help encapsulate the love and passion of comics and sci-fi into organizing and using these characters as a means of education, we can all be super!
