ASAFO Community Development Association – The Muhiyyidin D’baha Leadership Academy

Date grant awarded: August 14, 2018

The Muhiyyidin D’baha Leadership Academy is a free, African centered after-school in South Carolina, US, designed to solve the problem of failing schools in low income communities. Children are instructed in math and reading with African culture integrated, and are taught methods of critical thinking and analysis. The leadership academy empowers children to excel despite their circumstances.

ASAFO Community Development Association leads the school. ASAFO is comprised of concerned community organizers who saw fundamental flaws in educational methods and decided to take action. The grant funds are helping ASAFO renovate a building that was donated for the project and will also allow organizers to add books to the library.
