Date grant awarded: August 4, 2018

Toto: turtle is a project created by Alejandro, David, Juan Diego, and Brandon, and it involves helping youth emotionally grow. The word toto comes from Latin and it means ” in all” or in its totality. The project revolves around the idea of turtles carrying their shell with them all the time, and how we as humans also carry different shells with us all the time.

Through the use of the analogy of the turtle’s shell, they are seeking the development of a project that allows youth to liberate emotional baggage that they might carry around in their lives.

The project engages with healing circles and the use of art materials to develop multiple sculptures that could be displayed around different communities in Marin County, CA.
