Akampa Agatha, asiimwe Judith,Peace – Butare Irish Potato Farming Project
The Butare Irish Potatoes Farming Project (BIPFP) is located in Kabale, Uganda. Fifteen single mothers from the Burare-Kabale district work together to grow Irish potatoes to help improve their family livelihood and income. Many of these women have lost their husbands, and are left alone to take care of the children. Other women in the group have experienced unwanted pregnancies when they were still in school.
The Pollination Project grant will help the women purchase a larger farm as well as improved seeds that are pest and disease resistant. Their overall vision is to establish a model farm where single mothers can come and learn the skill of Irish potato farming.
