Sarah Hanson, Labyrinthine

8431671756_b8d6640230_nSarah Hanson runs Labyrinthine, a nonprofit retreat center in the Garry Oak Habitat ecosystem on the San Juan Islands.  She and her team have been studying the forest and the endangered species who inhabit it, and have decided to bring permaculture and land stewardship methods to restoring the forest and the land.  Sarah and her team plan to grow medicinal herbs and food for the retreat center and for the surrounding San Juan Island community.

Sarah notes that theIsland has recently built a hospital to serve and support local residents who will need to supplement local health care with organic farming, medicinal and alternative heath practices in addition to emergency medicine as opposed to relying exclusively on ferries and planes to bring “mainland” medicine and food that is not available in time sensitive situations.  Funding from The Pollination Project is supporting Sarah and Labyrinthine in purchasing heirloom seed starts and other materials to develop their permaculture food forest.
