Lisa Benham- Gardening & Environmental Literacy at San Quentin Prison

Lisa is a graduate student who doing hands-on research in how the human relationship to nature provides transformation in one’s moral or spiritual development, personal empowerment, or reported integral wholeness in incarcerated participants.  She will be working directly with Insight Garden Program within San Quentin State Prison.  The intention of her research and the publication of her findings is to demonstrate and support appropriate and cost-optimized programs and policies, to the significant and lasting benefit of offenders, their families, society, and the greater natural environment.  TPP will be supporting Lisa in spending more time at San Quentin to gather greater in-person data, which ultimately helps her shore up her argument for spreading programs like this to other prisons around the country.
