Abraham Mwaura, Spring Forward Network
Abraham Mwaura is an experienced community and labor organizer, and the founder of Spring Forward Network, a community network for climate change resilience in Joliet, Illinois. The Spring Forward Network understands climate change as “a convergence of intersecting issues, rooted in an unjust economic system and patriarchy [that forms] a nexus where action can be taken as one whole.” They recruit and train leaders in underserved communities to respond strategically to immediate crises and to also build long-term resilience.
The initial steps of the Spring Forward Network will involve organizing with a group of local religious leaders, a Community Development corporation, the residents’ committee at a local housing project, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, and a women’s justice committee. This team will contribute to local strategic planning by facilitating the creation of a resilience-based alliance following the Spring Forward Network model.
The funds from The Pollination Project will be used for their initial community organizing efforts.
